To enhance regional logistics and modernize urban infrastructure, the Odisha Works Department will implement the long-awaited Rourkela Outer Ring Road over the next three financial years.
The Roads and Buildings Division, in partnership with SM Consultants, has drafted three potential alignments for the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The proposed four-lane highway will link key peri-urban zones across Lathikata, Rajgangpur, Kuarmunda, Nuagaon, and Bisra blocks. Alignment routes range from 117 km at the shortest to 170.5 km at the longest, extending toward the Jharkhand border.
Following final reviews with the Sundargarh district administration, the selected alignment will be submitted for state approval to initiate full DPR preparation. The ring road is projected to bypass heavy industrial transit away from the city center while strengthening rural-urban integration under the Greater Rourkela development framework.
